Pricing Actuary (Reinsurance)

Location: Cape Town, South Africa; hybrid work model with an expectation of being in the office at least three days per week

Salary: R830,000–R1,380,000 base salary per year, plus performance-based variable compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams on pricing and product development for individual and group life portfolios.
• Develop, review, and document reinsurance pricing bases and terms for new and established products.
• Perform experience investigations covering mortality, morbidity, lapse, and claims trends.
• Apply predictive modelling, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve pricing, portfolio management, and client solutions.
• Monitor in-force reinsurance portfolio performance and support portfolio management actions.
• Engage with clients during business development, pricing, and negotiation processes; provide technical guidance and mentor colleagues as appropriate.

Requirements

• Nearly or newly qualified actuary with FASSA or equivalent qualification.
• Approximately 3–7 years of actuarial experience.
• Experience in pricing, product development, valuation, experience investigations, or reinsurance.
• Strong analytical and technical skills, including actuarial modelling and statistical techniques.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to deliver accurate, high-quality work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and independently drive projects to completion.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the South African or broader Middle East and Africa insurance markets.
• Experience with AI-enabled tools, R, generalized linear models, or other programming languages.
