2D Animation Supervisor

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; hybrid work with flexible work-from-home days available

What you will do

• Supervise and support a team of 2D animators working across rigged and traditional animation pipelines.
• Review shots and sequences, provide constructive notes, and maintain the show's performance and quality standards.
• Guide animators in working with character rigs, including identifying rig issues and collaborating with the Rigging team on improvements.
• Partner with the Director and Assistant Director on creative intent, tone, and character performance.
• Assign scenes, manage workloads against the production schedule, and coordinate with Layout, Compositing, Editorial, and the offshore animation partner.
• Mentor animators transitioning from hand-drawn animation to rigged workflows and ensure confidential handling of production work.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a 2D Animation Supervisor, Lead Animator, or in a similar senior 2D animation production role.
• Strong hands-on experience with rigged or puppet-based 2D animation, preferably including Toon Boom Harmony rigging.
• Solid understanding of rig mechanics, including pegs, deformers, and constraints.
• Strong leadership, communication, feedback, mentoring, and animator development skills.
• Strong understanding of timing, staging, weight, character performance, narrative storytelling, comic timing, and camera.
• Ability to work to broadcast schedules, manage competing priorities, and adapt to production changes.
