Senior Machine Learning Scientist - Recommendations (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid schedule with office attendance on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and remote work on the other two weekdays.

Salary: $300,000 annual base pay, excluding equity and other compensation.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize recommendation models for personalized experiences across the website, app, email, and push notifications.
• Conduct applied research using traditional machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and contextual bandits.
• Build scalable pipelines for model training, evaluation, and inference.
• Deploy production models with attention to latency, interpretability, scalability, and operational constraints.
• Evaluate model performance through A/B tests, offline metrics, and business impact analysis.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and data scientists while mentoring less experienced scientists.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with a PhD, 9+ years with an MS, or 10+ years with a BS in a quantitative STEM field.
• 3+ years of experience developing and deploying machine learning models for recommendations, ranking, personalization, or search.
• Strong knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, collaborative filtering, sequence modeling, representation learning, and multi-armed bandits.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn.
• Experience with Spark, Hadoop, Airflow, Kubeflow, MLflow, and scalable cloud-based ML systems.
• Ability to design experiments, analyze statistical results, and communicate complex ML concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with recommendation systems for eCommerce, marketplaces, or streaming platforms.
• Experience with reinforcement learning or contextual bandits for adaptive recommendations.
