Software Engineer (Next.js)

Location: New York City or San Francisco, United States; remote-first team.

Salary: $196,000–$294,000 annual base pay for San Francisco; compensation may vary by employee location and includes benefits and equity.

What you will do

• Design and implement core Next.js features from RFC through release.
• Build integrations between the framework, platform, and runtime infrastructure.
• Collaborate with the open-source community through issues, pull requests, RFCs, and discussions.
• Optimize performance across servers, browsers, and edge environments.
• Track emerging web standards, including React Server Components, Partial Prerendering, and Web Streams.
• Improve developer tooling, documentation, and examples for Next.js users.

Requirements

• Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
• Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, HTTP, rendering models, and caching.
• Experience building production-grade web applications or frameworks.
• Familiarity with Webpack, Turbopack, Babel, SWC, or similar build tools.
• Collaborative mindset and clear communication, particularly in public and open-source work.
