Focus on translating research concepts into robust software, building real-time perception pipelines, and supporting verification and validation under medical software standards.
Location: Hybrid role based in Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

What you will do
- Design and develop software for a digital surgery platform covering computer vision, artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and surgical navigation.
- Build solutions from early-stage prototypes through production-ready medical device software.
- Develop computer vision pipelines for camera calibration, 3D reconstruction, image registration, object and instrument tracking, and machine learning-based perception.
- Translate research concepts into robust, maintainable, and scalable products.
- Ensure software quality through unit and integration testing, code reviews, and continuous integration practices.
- Collaborate in a Scrum team and contribute to architecture, technology evaluations, verification, validation, and regulatory documentation.
Requirements
- M.Sc. or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics, Medical Imaging, or a related field.
- Several years of industrial or research experience developing computer vision or machine learning applications.
- Strong software engineering skills and experience delivering production code in C++ and/or Python.
- Experience with computer vision topics such as pose estimation, tracking, SLAM, image registration, or multi-view vision.
- Experience with software design patterns, CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automated testing.
- Professional English communication is required; German is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience with OpenCV, VTK, PCL, PyTorch, ROS2, Git, Azure DevOps, Linux, camera calibration, and 3D geometry.
- Scientific curiosity, a product-oriented mindset, and enthusiasm for digital surgery and medical technology.
