VFX Artist (Game Development)

Location: Remote; pay varies based on geographic location

What you will do

• Create and implement real-time particle effects using static and animated 2D and 3D elements.
• Place visual effects across gameplay, environments, and cinematics.
• Create FX textures, simple geometry, UV sets, and node-based shaders.
• Orchestrate layered FX events with precise timing to create believable scenes.
• Optimize effects for framerate and memory, and collaborate with development departments on game-engine integration.
• Support the overall visual style of the game through strong artistic analysis and reference use.

Requirements

• Intermediate proficiency with DCC software such as Maya, Houdini, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Maya, including joints and locators, keyframing, rigid-body simulations, hard-surface modeling, and UV mapping.
• Proficiency in Photoshop for painting and editing textures.
• Proficiency with node-based shader networks and an intermediate foundation in computer graphics fundamentals.
• Good animation, timing, observation, communication, collaboration, and independent-working skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of additional visual-effects software.
• Solid traditional arts background.
