Staff Software Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid role with primary in-office presence at the J Street office in Bentonville, Arkansas, United States

Salary: $110,000–$220,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Deliver scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, developer tooling, and machine learning frameworks.
• Drive the full software lifecycle across coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to build scalable, resilient, and maintainable systems.
• Lead system design reviews and translate complex business needs into actionable technical requirements.
• Build AI-driven applications by integrating machine learning components, automation, and generative AI tools.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence across teams.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of software engineering experience with a relevant bachelor’s degree, or 6 years of software engineering experience without the degree requirement.
• Software development experience with languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, code review, debugging, documentation, iterative delivery, and continuous integration.
• Experience designing scalable, secure, and maintainable systems and integrating AI/ML components.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field.
• Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
• Knowledge of assistive technologies and digital accessibility best practices.
