Senior Journalist

Location: Lagos or Abuja, Nigeria; candidates must have the legal right to work in Nigeria and complete the mandatory NYSC programme or hold a valid certificate of exemption.

What you will do

• Lead the editorial planning, development, and production of Focus on Africa content for television, livestreams, radio, podcasts, and digital platforms.
• Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing production team while fostering creativity, inclusion, and collaboration.
• Review and approve scripts, video packages, and other output to ensure accuracy, impartiality, fairness, and editorial quality.
• Oversee digital output, audience engagement, analytics, market research, podcasts, and social media strategy.
• Build relationships with correspondents, contributors, hirify.global departments, and international bureaux to strengthen cross-platform coverage.
• Maintain diverse contributor networks and deputise for the Assistant Editor when required.

Requirements

• Proven success producing, commissioning, and delivering television, digital, streaming, daily news, and current affairs content.
• Extensive experience handling breaking news and rolling coverage, with strong knowledge of African affairs and global news.
• Strong leadership, people management, mentoring, delegation, and partnership-building skills.
• Significant experience in script editing, sub-editing, video production, and managing legal, compliance, and editorial policy issues.
• Strong digital storytelling, podcast, social media, audience engagement, and analytics skills.
• Clear and effective English communication, research, writing, editing, data journalism, and visual journalism skills.
