Journalist, Focus On Africa

Location: Work from office in Nairobi, Kenya. Candidates living outside Kenya may apply; relocation to Kenya may be supported through the standard relocation package.

What you will do

• Shoot and edit high-quality video segments for broadcast and digital platforms.
• Write accurate, concise scripts and translate complex issues into compelling video narratives.
• Attend events, press conferences, and breaking-news situations to gather information and visual material.
• Present news stories, reports, and features live on air for visualized radio, podcasts, and digital video.
• Work with producers, editorial colleagues, and field reporters to develop and deliver story ideas.
• Oversee the digital presence of Focus on Africa, including social media platforms.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience producing impactful original short- and mid-form videos.
• Strong storytelling, writing, editing, communication, interviewing, and visual production skills.
• In-depth knowledge of the news agenda across Africa and its diaspora.
• Experience using pictures, graphics, and audio to explain fast-moving events and complex stories.
• Experience working under pressure, meeting tight deadlines, and delivering commissioned content efficiently.
• Excellent English writing, editing, and communication skills are essential.
