Head of Compliance (Crypto)

Location: Malta; current residency in Malta or immediate willingness to relocate required

Base salary: €128,000–€173,000 per year, excluding discretionary bonuses, equity, and localized benefits.

What you will do

• Lead regulatory matters, including audits, examinations, onsite inspections, reporting, and ongoing engagement with the MFSA, FIAU, and applicable EU agencies.
• Guide MiCA licensing and transition processes for the Malta-based crypto trading business.
• Ensure CASP/VFA policies, product features, and operational controls meet EU regulatory standards.
• Own the compliance program, board reporting, policy registers, and regulatory governance.
• Oversee AML/CFT, KYC/CDD, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring in coordination with global compliance specialists.
• Resolve legacy compliance issues, provide commercially minded advice, and mentor a team of 3–4 compliance professionals.

Requirements

• Prior MFSA Personal Questionnaire approval and successful completion of regulatory interviews required.
• Direct experience managing supervisory interactions with the MFSA required.
• Current residency in Malta or immediate willingness to relocate required.
• Experience leading compliance functions, regulatory governance, and financial crime programs.
• Ability to execute directly and operate effectively in an agile, scale-up environment.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with MiCA transitions and CASP/VFA frameworks.
• Experience with crypto-assets, fintech, or payment institutions.
• Experience resolving complex legacy compliance issues pragmatically.
