Salary: NZ$99,788–NZ$119,204 per year, depending on qualifications and experience

What you will do

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate sociology courses.
  • Supervise sub-doctoral students.
  • Undertake high-quality and impactful sociological research.
  • Contribute research and teaching expertise that complements or extends the current Sociology staff profile and programme.
  • Build or extend relationships with Māori and Pacific communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Requirements

  • Teaching and/or research expertise in Māori and/or Indigenous Sociology, decolonial social sciences, Asian diasporas and communities, social justice, or applied sociology.
  • Methodological and theoretical expertise in Indigenous, Kaupapa Māori, and/or Asian epistemologies.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Capacity to contribute to a workload allocated as 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service.
  • Ability to work full-time at the Auckland City Campus for a 2-year fixed-term appointment.

Nice to have

  • Expertise extending current areas such as social theory, Pacific sociologies, higher education, critical mental health studies, science and technology studies, urban sociology, disasters, migration and population, sports sociology, transgender studies, or social movements.
  • Experience working with Māori and Pacific communities.
