AI Research Intern

Location: United States, hybrid; must be available to work in the New York City office at least 3–4 days per week

What you will do

• Research, design, and train transformer-based and graph-based foundation models on customer, transaction, and merchant data.
• Run experiments, evaluate results rigorously, and turn promising findings into working prototypes.
• Explore applications of deep learning, graph learning, and generative AI to real-world financial data.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Applied Science, and Analytics teams across business units.
• Develop product-ready solutions that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.

Requirements

• Final-year master's or PhD student in Engineering or a related field, graduating in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.
• Strong understanding of neural networks, backpropagation, attention, embeddings, optimization, and training dynamics.
• Hands-on experience implementing, training, or fine-tuning models with PyTorch or an equivalent framework.
• At least one previous research, machine learning, or software engineering internship, or substantial academic or personal projects.
• Available for the full-time, 8-week program from June 21 to August 13, 2027, and able to work in the New York City office at least 3–4 days per week.
• Must already have authorization to work in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with transformer foundation model pre-training, fine-tuning, inference, and related tradeoffs.
• Exposure to graph neural networks, message passing, graph foundation models, or representation learning on graph-structured data.
• Coursework or projects involving large language models or generative AI.
• Research publications, workshop papers, or open-source contributions.
