TL;DR
Software Engineer - Neutron Flight Safety Systems (C++/Python): Developing safety-critical embedded flight software and supporting tools for Neutron's autonomous Flight Termination System with an accent on requirements traceability, testing, simulation, and certification evidence. Focus on designing reliable flight-safety algorithms, integrating hardware and software, automating verification, and supporting launch operations under rigorous regulatory and safety constraints.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand. Domestic and international travel may be required. For the New Zealand role, background and nationality checks apply because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required.

Company

hirify.global is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for space missions.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain safety-critical embedded flight software for Neutron's autonomous Flight Termination System.
  • Build support services, tools, interfaces, deployment workflows, simulations, and data-analysis capabilities.
  • Write unit tests and support formal, informal, integrated-system, and flight-operation testing.
  • Contribute to software requirements, architecture, design, algorithms, interface documentation, and requirements traceability.
  • Participate in software reviews, technical reporting, risk mitigation, and system safety assessment activities.
  • Support integration of the flight safety system with launch-vehicle hardware and operations while applying relevant regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent knowledge.
  • At least 3 years of software development experience.
  • Proficiency in embedded systems development with C++ and Python for testing and simulation.
  • Experience with safety-critical software or development in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with deployment and CI tooling, Git, and issue trackers.
  • Strong attention to detail, engineering documentation, technical communication, and the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.

Nice to have

  • Experience with space launch vehicle flight safety systems or recognised safety and software assurance standards.
  • Requirements-driven software design, requirements traceability, Linux, CMake, Bazel, real-time operating systems, or bare-metal development.
  • MISRA, static analysis, hardware-in-the-loop testing, flight hardware, or serial and network protocols.
  • Experience with regulators, certification bodies, independent verification and validation, or complex autonomous systems.
  • Experience with test procedures, data review, quality reporting, and Jira.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a small, focused team developing reusable launch-vehicle technology.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on certification and safety-critical engineering practices.
  • Work in a high-pressure environment focused on rigorous engineering, teamwork, innovation, and delivery.
  • Support meaningful space missions involving rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems.
