TL;DR
Reliability Engineer (Thermal Hardware) (Clean Energy): Ensuring the long-term dependability of Exowatt's P3 solar-thermal energy system with an accent on accelerated life testing, failure analysis, and reliability modeling. Focus on defining hardware reliability requirements, analyzing field failures, leading FMEA and FRACAS programs, and improving high-temperature electromechanical systems.

Location: On-site at the Austin, Texas facility; relocation is required, with relocation assistance available if necessary.

Company

hirify.global develops the P3 system, which captures solar energy, stores it as heat, and generates electricity on demand for AI infrastructure.

What you will do

  • Own reliability requirements, targets, budgets, and KPIs for P3 hardware, including thermal storage, heat exchangers, turbomachinery, power electronics, and balance-of-plant components.
  • Design and execute accelerated life testing, HALT, and HASS programs covering thermal cycling, vibration, and operational stress.
  • Lead FMEA and reliability-centered maintenance studies through design, new product introduction, and production ramp.
  • Analyze field failures, warranty returns, and service data using Weibull analysis, life data analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Own the FRACAS process and coordinate failure resolution with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier partners.
  • Build reliability models and support system-level availability analysis for customer deployments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of reliability engineering experience with electromechanical or thermal hardware.
  • Experience with accelerated life and stress testing, including ALT, HALT, and HASS.
  • Proficiency in FMEA, fault tree analysis, reliability block diagrams, FRACAS, and reliability-centered maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of Weibull analysis, life data analysis, design of experiments, confidence-bound estimation, and root-cause methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and system schematics, write technical documentation, communicate findings, and travel to test sites and customer deployments.

Nice to have

  • Experience in energy, aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, or other high-reliability hardware industries.
  • Knowledge of high-temperature failure mechanisms, thermal storage, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, rotating machinery, or power electronics.
  • ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer, Design for Reliability training, or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with reliability software, CMMS, field-service platforms, or building a reliability function at an early-stage hardware company.
