Senior Engineer, Storage (File & Block)

Location: San Francisco, CA; Sunnyvale, CA; or Bellevue, WA. The role requires access to export-controlled information, so candidates must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for access or export authorization.

Base salary: $182,000–$242,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits based on eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable, multi-tenant file and block storage services on CoreWeave's hardware fleet.
• Own the NFS data path, including reliability, I/O resilience, metadata-heavy workloads, small-file performance, and throughput for AI pipelines.
• Build durable, high-performance block volumes for customer workloads and internal stateful services.
• Develop Kubernetes-native storage capabilities, including a backend-neutral CSI driver, dynamic provisioning, resizing, snapshots, and RWO volumes.
• Build control-plane features for tenancy, quotas, QoS, key management, auditing, lifecycle policies, and data protection.
• Improve reliability, observability, performance, and resilience while collaborating with platform, product, infrastructure, and operations teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 6–10 years of experience building storage systems, distributed systems, or infrastructure services.
• Production experience with distributed or networked file systems and/or block storage, including durability, snapshots, replication, and crash consistency.
• Strong proficiency in a systems or backend language; Go is strongly preferred, with C or Rust as additional options.
• Experience with Kubernetes controllers, operators, CRDs, and CSI storage workflows.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ceph/RBD, Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, BeeGFS, WEKA, VAST, or DAOS.
• Familiarity with CockroachDB, Temporal, gRPC, Protobuf, ClickHouse, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Exposure to RDMA, GPUDirect Storage, RoCE, InfiniBand, or SPDK.
• Experience mentoring engineers and communicating technical insights across teams.
