Location: Lagos, Nigeria; hybrid workplace

is a mobile banking institution developing lending, credit, payment, savings, banking, and point-of-sale products for emerging markets.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems for lending and credit products.
- Design and optimise relational databases, data models, indexes, and queries.
- Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and production issues.
- Contribute to architecture, technical design discussions, security, fault tolerance, availability, and data consistency.
- Improve observability, monitoring, deployment practices, and operational reliability.
- Review code, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product, Data, Risk, and Engineering teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend development experience.
- Experience designing distributed systems, scalable backend applications, RESTful APIs, and service-oriented or microservices architectures.
- Experience in lending, credit, fintech, payments, or a related financial domain.
- Strong knowledge of relational database design, indexing, query optimisation, system design, and data structures.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, automated testing, CI/CD, and production software development.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with credit decisioning, loan management, repayment, or risk systems.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging systems, asynchronous processing, and high-volume transactional systems.
- Experience with observability and performance monitoring tools.
- Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership.
