Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Lagos, Nigeria; hybrid workplace

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers while building a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
• Own the technical direction and delivery of systems supporting lending and credit products.
• Design, develop, and scale reliable backend services and distributed systems.
• Work with Product, Risk, Data, and other stakeholders to define technical solutions and delivery priorities.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, deployment, observability, and system reliability.
• Support architecture decisions, incident management, root-cause analysis, technical debt reduction, and engineering metrics.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including significant backend development experience.
• 2+ years of experience managing or leading engineering teams.
• Hands-on coding experience and the ability to design and code new systems.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, scalable backend applications, system design, APIs, microservices, and asynchronous or event-driven systems.
• Experience in lending, credit, fintech, payments, or a related financial domain, with strong relational database design and query-performance knowledge.
• Experience with software architecture, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, production operations, mentoring, and stakeholder management.

Nice to have

• Experience with credit decisioning, loan management, repayment, collections, or risk systems.
• Experience with high-volume transactional systems, cloud infrastructure, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience leading distributed engineering teams or scaling teams in a fast-growing organisation.
• Frontend development experience with React.
