Staff Autonomy Software Engineer (Localization)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; office-based

Salary: $200,000–$260,000 USD base salary annually for the SF/Silicon Valley location. Total compensation also includes equity, bonuses, and benefits.

What you will do

• Set the technical strategy and architecture for onboard navigation and pose estimation systems.
• Design and develop sensor-fusion and pose-estimation solutions using IMU, camera, lidar, GNSS, and wheel-speed data.
• Lead visual and lidar odometry development and evaluate build-versus-adopt decisions for new techniques.
• Define navigation metrics and evaluation methods for algorithm and system performance.
• Act as a technical escalation point for complex localization problems and anticipate field failure modes.
• Evaluate sensor performance and verify calibrations, settings, and uncertainty characterization.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD with academic or industry experience building navigation, localization, and odometry systems.
• Expertise in C++ and strong software engineering skills for high-reliability deployed applications.
• Deep experience converting raw sensor data into 6-DOF pose using Kalman filtering, factor graphs, or comparable state-estimation techniques.
• Experience with computer vision, visual odometry, and/or point-cloud odometry.
• Experience mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and improving team engineering practices.
• Clear technical communication and experience writing design documentation.
