Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Resident (AI)

Location: On-site in the Palo Alto office five days a week; the listing also states Menlo Park, CA.

Hippocratic AI is building a healthcare-only, safety-focused large language model and platform for patient-facing clinical applications.

What you will do

• Develop advanced prompts and conversation logic for autonomous clinical conversations and complex agentic workflows.
• Design integrations connecting conversational agents with customer EHRs, scheduling systems, and telephony platforms through HL7/FHIR feeds and REST or webhook APIs.
• Balance clinical accuracy, safety guardrails, and patient experience through testing, iteration, and user feedback.
• Collaborate with clinicians, product managers, software engineers, and ML scientists to translate clinical requirements into conversation designs.
• Run experiments on model outputs, prompt variations, and conversation strategies using clinical safety, patient satisfaction, and task completion metrics.
• Support customer go-lives, debug integration issues, and maintain safely version-controlled production conversation code.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent coursework and projects.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in software development, AI/ML, or a related technical role.
• Strong Python skills and experience writing production or near-production code.
• Experience with LLM prompting, databases, REST APIs, asynchronous patterns, and error handling.
• Strong problem-solving ability and experience breaking down complex technical problems.
• Ability to work on-site in the Palo Alto office five days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with backend frameworks such as Flask, Django, FastAPI, or Spring Boot.
• Projects demonstrating full-stack development, AI experimentation, or prompt engineering.
• Knowledge of AI/ML concepts, model evaluation, HIPAA, healthcare data handling, and security practices.
• Healthcare or health-tech experience involving clinical workflows, EHR systems, or patient-facing applications.
• Experience with LangChain, LangSmith, the Anthropic SDK, or similar prompt engineering tools.
