Senior Staff Robotics Simulation Engineer (Thermal & Fluids Analysis)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base salary: $154,000–$180,000 per year.

What you will do

• Define the organization-wide thermal management strategy and multi-physics simulation roadmap for next-generation robotic platforms.
• Establish standardized CFD evaluation processes and scalable workflows across EVT, DVT, and PVT development phases.
• Design thermal experiments, instrumentation strategies, and correlation frameworks to validate simulation models against empirical data.
• Guide structural and thermal trade-offs for high-torque actuators, optimizing heat dissipation, weight, and power density.
• Integrate thermal-fluid analysis with static and dynamic FEA to assess thermal effects on structural integrity and robotic precision.
• Advise leadership, lead technical reviews, and mentor engineers across mechanical, electrical, and controls teams.

Requirements

• PhD or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Thermal Science, focused on fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
• 10+ years of professional experience establishing simulation departments or leading large-scale virtual validation programs.
• Experience taking complex products from blank-sheet architecture through mass production, including thermal management of high-density actuators.
• Expertise with Ansys Fluent/Mechanical, STAR-CCM+, or Simcenter Flotherm, including custom UDF development.
• Advanced knowledge of conduction, convection, radiation, high-power-density electromechanical systems, and thermal experimentation.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or MATLAB for simulation tools and workflow automation.

• Experience with AI-driven optimization or real-time thermal digital twins.
• Knowledge of high-performance materials, aerospace-grade coatings, and advanced manufacturing processes.
