Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Vancouver, Canada; hybrid workplace

Base pay: $190,000–$255,000 per year, depending on experience level

What you will do

• Lead engineering for teams developing agentic workflows and natural language experiences.
• Build efficient engineering processes and deliver a multi-quarter roadmap focused on operational excellence, scalability, and reliability.
• Hire, coach, and mentor engineers while developing a high-performing, cross-functional organization.
• Provide technical leadership across product life cycles, including software quality, security standards, and live-site operations.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Data/AI Engineering, Customer Success, Partnerships, and company leadership.
• Contribute to engineering leadership and provide clarity in an ambiguous, fast-changing environment.

Requirements

• More than 8 years of professional engineering experience.
• Over 4 years of engineering team management experience.
• At least 5 years of experience delivering mission-critical software.
• Deep knowledge of the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience partnering with product management and internal technical teams.
• Experience designing and implementing databases, backends, and APIs, with a history of deploying and operating software at scale.
