Defensive Security Intern (Cybersecurity): Responding to and investigating security alerts across EDR, SIEM, and IDS controls while documenting findings and strengthening defensive security processes with an accent on alert analysis, security control hardening, and ticket quality assurance. Focus on understanding attack vectors, tuning alerts, improving remediation documentation, and applying networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity concepts in financial services.
Location: Waterford, Ireland; fully on-site at the Waterford office for the duration of the internship

What you will do
- Respond to alerts generated by EDR, SIEM, IDS, and other security controls.
- Investigate why alerts were generated and help determine appropriate responses.
- Support the hardening of security controls and the tuning of alerts to reduce exposure.
- Maintain consistent quality standards across security tickets.
- Document findings, remediation activities, processes, and tool documentation.
- Learn about current attack vectors and contribute to internal security awareness initiatives.
Requirements
- Current third-year Bachelor's or Master's student required in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- The internship must be a mandatory part of the degree programme, and the student must return to studies afterward.
- Foundational knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP and HTTP/S.
- Understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems and common web technologies.
- Basic knowledge of cryptography, authentication, authorization, secure coding, IDS, EDR, and SIEM tools.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
