Systems Engineer (MCP Portals)

Location: Hybrid; available location is Lisbon, Portugal

Salary: €45,000–€62,000 annual salary for Bay Area-based hires; compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate distributed services connecting MCP clients with authorized upstream MCP servers.
• Evolve MCP implementations as the protocol specification changes.
• Build authentication and authorization flows using hirify.global Access, OAuth, identity, and delegated upstream access.
• Improve reliability, scalability, latency, and resource efficiency for multi-tenant Developer Platform systems.
• Develop logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and actionable alerts while participating in production support and incident response.
• Investigate customer issues across services and teams and collaborate with product, security, and engineering partners on maintainable capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience building and operating reliable distributed systems, backend services, network services, or infrastructure products in production.
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, Rust, C++, or another systems-oriented language.
• Understanding of HTTP, APIs, proxies, streaming connections, and distributed-systems failure modes.
• Experience debugging production systems with logs, metrics, traces, error reporting, and customer evidence.
• Ability to reason about security boundaries, credential handling, concurrency, state management, and backward-compatible deployments.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating investigations across team boundaries.

Nice to have

• Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, PKCE, or policy-based access control.
• Experience with the Model Context Protocol or other rapidly evolving application protocols.
• Familiarity with hirify.global Developer Platform or other serverless edge-computing platforms.
• Experience building gateways, forward proxies, identity systems, developer platforms, Zero Trust, or data loss prevention products.
