Head of Data Apps Engineering (React Native)

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, IL or Redwood City, CA. Redwood City requires Mondays in the office plus three additional days chosen from Tuesday through Friday; Chicago requires four days in the office.

What you will do

• Lead architecture and hands-on development across React Native applications and a shared multi-app backend platform.
• Partner with the portfolio product lead on roadmap planning, technical feasibility, and delivery sequencing.
• Track retention and usage across the app portfolio to prioritize engineering work.
• Develop reusable onboarding, account-linking, loyalty, and receipt OCR components to accelerate new app launches.
• Manage a small team of mobile and backend engineers through line management, code review, and career development.
• Represent the data apps business in executive and planning forums, including portfolio status and investment decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including several years building consumer-facing mobile products.
• Demonstrated ownership of a consumer product's technical outcomes as a founder, CTO, VP of Engineering, founding engineer, technical lead, or equivalent.
• Experience taking a consumer app from zero to meaningful scale in users, production load, or revenue.
• Deep backend expertise across APIs, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure, plus production React Native or comparable cross-platform mobile experience.
• Experience directly managing small engineering teams and presenting to executive stakeholders.
• Ability to work in the required Chicago or Redwood City hybrid office schedule.
