TL;DR
Lead Mechanical Engineer (Consumer Electronics): Leading the mechanical design and development of innovative high-volume consumer products from concept through mass production with an accent on user-centric design, manufacturability, reliability, and quality. Focus on validating plastic tooling, applying DFM and DFMEA, coordinating suppliers and manufacturing partners, and mentoring junior engineers.

Location: Hsinchu, Taiwan; based in the Hsinchu office

What you will do

  • Lead user-centric mechanical design, analysis, documentation, and testing of complex parts and assemblies for consumer products.
  • Develop products from front-end concept through mass production, optimizing performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability, quality, regulatory compliance, and safety.
  • Validate manufacturing readiness, coordinate plastic tooling development, perform design debugging, prototyping, functional testing, and data analysis.
  • Drive design reviews and collaborate with industrial design, electronics, optical, audio, embedded software, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and worldwide teams.
  • Apply DFM, FMEA, tolerance analysis, risk management, and other engineering best practices.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and contribute to technology roadmaps and platform implementation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience, preferably 10+ years, in mechanical design and development of high-volume consumer electronic products.
  • Experience across the full design cycle from concept through mass production, including high-volume manufacturing, automation, design validation, and characterization.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design and 3D CAD tools, specifically CREO / Pro-Engineer.
  • Knowledge of injection-molded plastics, tooling, CNC machining, stamping, metal finishing, assembly, cosmetic finishes, and defect analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of DFMEA, DFMA, geometrical tolerancing, tolerance analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FEA simulation software such as Ansys.
  • Experience with 8D, PDCA, DMAIC, crisis management, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Project management experience and ability to work with multicultural, cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
