Associate Publisher, NPJ Series (Clinical Medicine) (academic publishing/open access): Managing and developing a portfolio of open-access clinical medicine journals while building relationships with editors, societies, researchers, and internal teams with an accent on portfolio strategy, journal growth, partnerships, and author experience. Focus on negotiating society agreements, monitoring KPIs, resolving sensitive publication issues, and delivering measurable journal improvement plans.
Location: Hybrid working model in Milan, Italy or Pune, India
Salary: Minimum €32,500 for Milan-based positions

What you will do
- Manage and strategically develop a portfolio of proprietary and society open-access NPJ journals in clinical medicine.
- Build engagement with Societies, Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, authors, reviewers, and the wider research community.
- Identify portfolio growth opportunities using market intelligence, business development, and quantitative analysis.
- Manage partner-society relationships, including contract negotiations and sustainable partnership outcomes.
- Monitor journal KPIs, prepare development and improvement plans, and deliver measurable performance improvements.
- Resolve pre- and post-publication issues involving authorship, scope, ethics, consent, misconduct, and policies while collaborating with Production, IT, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Editorial teams.
Requirements
- Degree-level education or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- IT systems literacy and strong attention to detail.
- Proactive, resourceful, and accountable approach to problem solving and task completion.
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and manage priorities, deadlines, and changing requirements.
- Experience building productive relationships with academic and industry researchers; previous academic publishing experience is preferred.
