Principal Database Performance Engineer (C++)

Location: Remote in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, or the United Kingdom; the role can be located anywhere ClickHouse has a hiring presence.

What you will do

• Identify performance and scalability opportunities in customer and benchmark workloads.
• Design and implement optimized database algorithms and data structures for relational operators, indexes, query processing, memory management, and scheduling.
• Drive the performance roadmap across latency, throughput, memory efficiency, and hardware utilization.
• Develop and test a complex, high-performance database system and manage safe production rollouts.
• Represent ClickHouse through technical presentations, blog posts, and community contributions.
• Mentor and support junior engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in database performance engineering or distributed systems.
• Master’s degree or PhD in databases or a related field.
• Strong C++ skills and experience with performance-critical software or systems programming.
• Track record of delivering complex performance improvements end to end.
• Deep knowledge of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proactive, goal-driven approach.
