TL;DR
FinOps Engineer (AWS/GCP): Driving cloud cost optimization and financial governance across AWS and GCP with an accent on cost attribution, automation, and cross-functional architecture decisions. Focus on building cost reporting and anomaly detection, shipping infrastructure fixes with Python and Terraform, and reconciling savings with engineering and finance stakeholders.
Location: Remote, global; work from anywhere

What you will do
- Analyze AWS and GCP billing, usage, and cost trends to identify and ship savings through rightsizing, storage lifecycle policies, data transfer optimization, spot usage, and autoscaling.
- Build cost attribution systems with tagging policies, cost allocation, and chargeback or showback workflows.
- Automate cost reporting, anomaly detection, alerts, and policy enforcement using Python, Terraform, Lambda, or Bash.
- Partner with Engineering on architecture decisions and evaluate cost-versus-reliability tradeoffs.
- Support Finance with forecasting, budget tracking, financial KPIs, and dashboards.
- Explain savings cases and cost data to engineering, finance, and leadership audiences.
Requirements
- Strong AWS expertise and working knowledge of GCP, including pricing models, billing structures, and cost optimization.
- Automation and scripting experience with Python, Terraform or Pulumi, Lambda, or Bash.
- Experience with AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, GCP Billing Reports, and BI or dashboarding tools such as Hex.
- Prior experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, or cloud governance.
- Ability to analyze cost data and communicate it clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfort working cross-functionally without positional authority and documenting work in tools such as Linear and Notion.

- Experience with a dedicated cloud cost management platform such as CloudZero or Vantage.
