Software Engineer, Platform (Observability)

Location: Onsite, hybrid, or remote. Candidates within commuting distance of offices in San Francisco, New York, London, or Berlin must attend in-office anchor days on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, including when the role is listed as remote.

Salary: $208,000–$312,000 annual base pay in San Francisco, with compensation outside San Francisco adjusted based on employee location.

What you will do

• Design and build high-scale internal observability systems covering metrics, logs, and traces.
• Build cost attribution and chargeback tooling to map infrastructure spend to the parts of the business driving it.
• Partner with Backend and Platform engineers to instrument services for compliance, auditing, and record-keeping.
• Evaluate, integrate, and operate observability infrastructure across existing vendors and the CNCF ecosystem.
• Scale observability infrastructure to the throughput and cardinality of production traffic.
• Deliver visibility improvements that optimize how systems are built, deployed, and operated.

Requirements

• Proficiency in TypeScript with backend or infrastructure experience.
• Production experience with Go, Rust, or Zig.
• Experience with distributed computing systems at scale.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, including object storage.
• Familiarity with observability tools and concepts such as Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or Prometheus-compatible backends.
• Ability to work onsite, hybrid, or remotely, with in-office anchor days required for candidates within commuting distance of specified offices.

Nice to have

• Experience contributing to or working closely with CNCF observability projects.
