Project Director (PlayMatters) (Humanitarian Education): Leading a five-year, multi-country education project for refugee and host community children in Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda with an accent on strategic delivery, partner coordination, donor compliance, and quality programming. Location: Based in Kampala, Uganda, with regular travel to Ethiopia and South Sudan

What you will do

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership for the PlayMatters 3.0 education project.
  • Oversee implementation, work planning, performance monitoring, and delivery against project objectives.
  • Coordinate IRC staff, partners, subgrantees, government officials, donors, and other implementing agencies.
  • Manage partner support, budgets, financial tracking, operational compliance, and donor reporting.
  • Represent the project at coordination forums and communicate achievements and lessons learned.
  • Build a collaborative work environment that supports teamwork, trust, accountability, and staff empowerment.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in international development, humanitarian assistance, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience managing programs for refugees or crisis-affected populations in challenging contexts.
  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-million-dollar, complex, multi-country, and multi-partner projects.
  • Experience in East Africa and/or Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda with education programming.
  • Demonstrated success in staff capacity-building and participatory, flexible, and gender-sensitive programming.
  • Fluency in English is required.
