Platform Operations Director (SaaS/EdTech)

Location: Remote within the United Kingdom

Salary: £150,000–£160,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead SRE, security engineering, and developer experience across the application portfolio.
• Own the 99.9% availability commitment, including SLOs, error budgets, observability, capacity planning, resilience testing, and problem management.
• Define and operate vulnerability management, remediation SLAs, reporting, automated scanning, and secure-by-default platform practices.
• Lead the transition to build-it, run-it ownership, including on-call, alerting, and operational health for product engineering teams.
• Develop the internal developer platform, golden paths, self-service tooling, CI/CD, and environment provisioning.
• Use engineering productivity metrics to guide investment and improve delivery outcomes.

Requirements

• Senior leadership experience in SRE, platform, or infrastructure functions at scale in a customer-facing SaaS environment.
• Strong practical knowledge of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, observability, capacity planning, incident management, and MTTR improvement.
• Experience owning security posture, vulnerability management, remediation SLAs, and executive or board-level reporting.
• Experience leading distributed production ownership and internal developer platform or platform-as-a-product initiatives.
• Technical credibility with AWS and Terraform, plus strong communication and influencing skills at executive level.
• Experience building and developing engineering leaders and delivering outcomes across teams without direct reporting authority.

Nice to have

• Enterprise SaaS experience, ideally in EdTech or another data-sensitive or regulated domain.
• Knowledge of ISO 27001, SOC 2, Cyber Essentials Plus, or UK GDPR.
• Experience with AIOps, AI-assisted incident tooling, multi-product platforms, PHP, Docker, Kanban, agile delivery, or FinOps.
