Staff AI Engineer (AI Labs)

Location: Hybrid work in Madrid, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, or Montevideo

What you will do

• Scout and compare vendor and open-source AI models, tools, and frameworks across quality, cost, latency, security, and integration complexity.
• Build evaluation harnesses, sandboxes, datasets, prompts, scenarios, telemetry, and regression tracking for realistic AI technology testing.
• Prepare decision memos and readiness playbooks with recommendations, guardrails, integration guidance, risks, and limitations.
• Coordinate with platformization, domain, engineering, IT, legal, security, and compliance teams to move validated technologies into pilots or production capabilities.
• Maintain reusable governance standards, checklists, and decision templates for AI technology adoption.
• Mentor engineers, participate in technical hiring, and share evaluation methods through internal write-ups, talks, and selected external events.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years of hands-on work with LLMs and AI tooling.
• Strong experience with distributed systems and synchronous and asynchronous event-driven architectures.
• Proficiency with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration frameworks, including custom tools and multi-step workflows.
• Solid AWS infrastructure knowledge and experience running secure, cost-aware evaluation workloads.
• Experience designing AI benchmarks and making clear trade-off decisions involving quality, latency, cost, security, and vendor lock-in.
• Ability to structure ambiguous ideas into evaluation plans, communicate technical results clearly, and influence teams without direct authority.
