Senior Director New Glenn Software Engineering (Aerospace): Leading the development and delivery of embedded flight software, chassis test software, and ground systems for the reusable New Glenn orbital launch vehicle with an accent on safety-critical engineering, hardware/software integration, and software verification. Focus on defining the software roadmap, making flight-software architecture decisions, scaling engineering organizations, and delivering certified systems within launch schedules and budgets.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States. Relocation support is provided, and travel is expected up to 20% of the time.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $272,109–$380,951.55 annually. Other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary software engineering organization covering embedded flight software, chassis test software, and ground systems.
  • Define and execute the software engineering roadmap in alignment with New Glenn milestones, launch schedules, and vehicle reusability goals.
  • Own the software lifecycle from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, qualification, and flight certification.
  • Lead architectural decisions for flight computers, sensor interfaces, communications, and chassis test platforms.
  • Partner with avionics, systems engineering, test operations, and program management to manage integration, schedules, technical risk, and delivery.
  • Manage hiring, budgets, resource allocation, quality metrics, KPIs, and organizational growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years managing large engineering teams in senior leadership roles.
  • Experience delivering embedded software for safety-critical or flight-critical systems in aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated domains.
  • Strong knowledge of RTOS, embedded C/C++, hardware/software integration, and software verification and validation.
  • Experience managing cross-functional programs and delivering within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to export control regulations.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, or missile systems software.
  • Familiarity with DO-178C, NASA-STD-8739.8, MBSE, Simulink, model-based software development, and autocoding.
  • Experience with vehicle integration, test operations, and test software architectures.
  • Background at a launch vehicle manufacturer, defense prime contractor, or commercial space company.
