Head of Security (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)

Salary: $252,000–$370,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Define the security strategy, roadmap, operating cadence, metrics, incident response, and risk management practices.
• Build, hire, and lead the security organization as the company and its risk surface scale.
• Own cloud security across AWS and other adopted providers, including IAM, network segmentation, encryption, landing zones, detection and response, and infrastructure-as-code standards.
• Embed application security into the SDLC through secure design reviews, threat modeling, SAST/DAST/SCA, penetration testing, bug bounty, and vulnerability management.
• Protect AI/ML workflows, including data, models, prompts, training pipelines, and contractor access to the platform.
• Build and run SOC 2, ISO 27001, vendor risk, customer security review, and broader GRC programs while advising the CTO, executives, board, and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in technology security with significant leadership experience at director level or above.
• Experience building and scaling a security function from an initial team of approximately one to a mature organization of 10–30+ people.
• Deep expertise in AWS, IAM, network security, encryption, application security, SDLC integration, threat modeling, and security tooling.
• Hands-on familiarity with SIEM, EDR, CSPM, and vulnerability management platforms.
• Experience with AI/ML security risks, including model security, data pipeline protection, and prompt injection.
• Experience building compliance programs such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, managing security budgets and vendors, and communicating with executives, boards, customers, and auditors.
