Business Risk Officer (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; Portland, OR; or remote within Canada or the United States

Salary: $163,000–$203,800 USD for employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area; $146,000–$183,400 USD for other US employees; $154,100–$192,600 USD for Canadian employees.

What you will do

• Identify process and control blind spots and recommend commercial improvements.
• Facilitate pre-launch and new-activity reviews, track actions to closure, and escalate issues when necessary.
• Lead risk self-assessments and other activities within non-financial risk frameworks.
• Manage incidents, issues, and remediation activities in line with company frameworks.
• Develop KPIs and KRIs for product and process owners to monitor and mitigate risk.
• Coordinate audit and examination responses and provide training across Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Finance.

Requirements

• 5–7+ years of experience in banking, fintech, financial services, business risk, controls, operational risk, or a similar field.
• Experience balancing risk, compliance, and customer experience in cross-functional environments.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex business, regulatory, and risk concepts.
• Familiarity with Governance, Risk and Compliance practices and non-financial risk frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, problem-solving, ownership, and influencing skills.
• Proficiency with AI tools or willingness to develop this capability.

Nice to have

• Exposure to product or technology development lifecycles, including pre-launch reviews, feature rollouts, or cross-functional product builds.
