TL;DR
Principal Flight Software Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and verifying mission-critical flight software for high-power spacecraft, including real-time control of propulsion, attitude, thermal, power, and communications systems with an accent on fault tolerance, state-machine design, and spacecraft software architecture. Focus on building robust embedded systems, investigating anomalies, and validating code with software- and hardware-in-the-loop simulators.
Location: Los Angeles, California, United States. The role involves access to ITAR-controlled information and items; the successful candidate must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license.
Base salary: $200,000–$240,000 per year, plus equity.
Company
develops high-power satellite platforms for commercial and U.S. government missions from low Earth orbit to deep space.

- Development experience with Rust, C/C++, Python, VHDL, and SystemVerilog.
- Experience developing and verifying software for real-time, fault-tolerant embedded systems.
- Must be a U.S. person under ITAR or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license.
Nice to have
- Spacecraft flight software, Linux systems programming, driver development, or hard real-time embedded systems experience.
- Experience with CI/CD, software verification, performance analysis, debugging, and state machines.
- Knowledge of electronics, computer architecture, control systems, and Extended Kalman Filters.
- Experience creating hardware-in-the-loop and hardware-out-of-the-loop test systems.
Culture & Benefits
- Opportunity to develop software for large spacecraft operating across multiple orbits and demanding missions.
- Work across GNC algorithms, flight applications, embedded software, operating systems, HDL, and test systems.
- Equity in the company.
- Paid time off, medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and paid parental leave.
- Non-traditional career paths and cross-stack engineering experience are encouraged.
