TL;DR
Junior Development Engineer - Neutron (Aerospace): Developing and rapidly iterating metallic and composite structures for the Neutron launch vehicle with an accent on CAD design, structural interfaces, drawing packages, and manufacturing support. Focus on designing composite inserts and laminates, creating test fixtures, solving technical challenges, and meeting structural and thermal requirements.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand. The role is based in a New Zealand office and requires eligibility to access equipment and data regulated by U.S. ITAR.

Company

hirify.global is an end-to-end space company developing rockets, spacecraft, propulsion systems, and other critical spaceflight hardware.

What you will do

  • Produce and rapidly iterate conceptual CAD designs for primary and secondary metallic and composite structures across the Neutron launch vehicle.
  • Design composite inserts, laminates, joint details, metallic interfaces, and secondary structural elements in collaboration with analysis engineers.
  • Create drawing packages and technical reports while working with production teams to maintain design-for-manufacture requirements.
  • Develop test jigs and fixtures for component fabrication, assembly, and development testing.
  • Identify and solve technical challenges while delivering projects under tight deadlines.
  • Work with experienced engineers through ongoing technical and behavioral mentoring.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in aerospace, mechanical, or mechatronic engineering.
  • Relevant engineering employment experience and demonstrated engineering skills.
  • Experience with CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, communicate effectively, and collaborate within a team.
  • Sound analytical skills, tenacity, a can-do attitude, and the ability to make accurate judgments quickly.
  • For work in the New Zealand office, nationality and background checks apply because the role involves access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data. Eligibility may require citizenship of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the European Union, or a NATO country.

Nice to have

  • Understanding of composites engineering fundamentals, including classical lamination theory, material characterization, analysis methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, pressurized systems, mechanical moving assemblies, or fluid systems.
  • Hands-on composites manufacturing or metallic fabrication experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on the development of the Neutron launch vehicle, its launch pads, and test sites.
  • Collaborative environment focused on teamwork, mentorship, and practical problem-solving.
  • Fast-paced work involving real hardware, tight deadlines, and technically demanding missions.
  • Commitment to inclusive employment and equal opportunity.
