Mechanical Controls Engineer (AI Data Center)

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to San Francisco or San Jose, CA (4 days per week onsite)

Salary: $255,000 – $340,000

What you will do

• Develop control narratives, sequences of operation, and alarm matrices for mechanical systems.
• Define automation for cooling plants, liquid-cooling loops, pumps, and heat exchangers.
• Establish requirements for sensors, PLCs, DDC controllers, and BMS integration.
• Review partner designs and vendor submittals for compliance with internal standards.
• Coordinate controls requirements across mechanical, electrical, and operations teams.
• Support site acceptance testing, commissioning, and system bring-up.

Requirements

• Must be able to work onsite in San Francisco or San Jose 4 days per week.
• Experience designing or commissioning mechanical controls for data centers or industrial environments.
• Proficiency with chilled-water, air-cooling, and liquid-cooling systems.
• Strong understanding of PLC, DDC, and BMS architectures and protocols (BACnet, Modbus, OPC UA).
• Ability to develop P&IDs, control diagrams, and functional test procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, controls, or systems engineering.

Nice to have

• Experience with hyperscale or AI data centers.
• Familiarity with platforms from Siemens, Schneider Electric, or Honeywell.
• Knowledge of OT networking and controls cybersecurity.
• Experience with high-density liquid-cooling systems and CDUs.
