NewsNation - Temporary Assignment Desk Editor

Salary: $36.05–$43.27, commensurate with experience

What you will do

• Manage the national assignment desk across morning, dayside, and primetime programming shifts.
• Identify stories relevant to a national audience and research, verify, and report them through source outreach.
• Gather video, audio, pictures, and other editorial elements for news coverage.
• Coordinate breaking, continuing, and daily news coverage with correspondents, producers, photojournalists, and field teams.
• Monitor social media, competitive broadcasts, cable and digital platforms, and clear user-generated content.
• Coordinate transmission facilities and satellite space when needed, manage file-sharing workflows, and communicate rights and clearance restrictions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Five to ten years of newsroom experience, preferably in national news or a top local market.
• Strong writing, organizational, communication, and people skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to contribute story ideas.
• Willingness to work extended or modified shifts, weekdays, and holidays as news developments require.
• Must join the News Guild upon hire.
