Senior Software Engineer (Booking)

Location: On-site in Mountain View or San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $212,500–$270,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and operates a fully autonomous ride-hail service powered by the Waymo Driver.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable core services for Waymo’s Marketplace.
• Enable users to hail and control autonomous vehicles through critical user-facing flows.
• Ensure high reliability, low latency, and fault tolerance for production infrastructure.
• Architect APIs and systems serving internal and external partners.
• Collaborate with Booking iOS and Android engineers, product managers, UX designers and researchers, and data scientists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years of experience programming in backend languages.
• Experience building backend distributed systems.
• Experience developing low-latency, large-scale, user-facing distributed systems is preferred.
• Experience with C++ in a production environment is preferred.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Familiarity with ride-hailing or marketplace consumer platforms.
• Experience at another ride-hailing or marketplace company.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and interest in partnering with mobile and frontend teams.
