Complex Claims Specialist (E&S)

Location: Remote within the United States; travel to mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, trials, and other proceedings may account for up to 20% of the role. Car travel within the assigned territory represents approximately 10–25% of working time.

Salary: USD $124,000–$160,000 per year, depending on geographic location, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.

What you will do

• Evaluate and resolve coverage issues across all lines of business and liability claim types.
• Investigate claims through communication with claimants, attorneys, insureds, witnesses, and other relevant parties.
• Analyze losses, contributory or comparative negligence, expert needs, medical examinations, and overall claim exposure.
• Negotiate and resolve claims within delegated authority ranging from $100,000 to $400,000, using appropriate denials or releases.
• Manage litigation activities, vendors, expenses, reports, referrals, and updates for claims, underwriting, reinsurance, and actuarial stakeholders.
• Attend trials and other proceedings when required, while providing training, collaboration, and thought leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of casualty claims-handling experience, including at least 5 years managing complex cases with a primary property and casualty carrier.
• Experience in complex coverage analysis and significant large-loss evaluations.
• Strong litigation management, strategic negotiation, problem-solving, communication, and claim disposition skills.
• Ability to write coverage letters and use standard business software, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Multi-state licensing and knowledge of Medicare reporting and compliance are preferred.
• Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and ability to drive an automobile are required.

• New York Labor Law experience.
• Habitability, assault and battery, and Coverage B experience.
• College degree and carrier experience.
