Engineering Manager - Data (Fintech)

What you will do

• Lead the Data Engineering pod, own its roadmap and engineering standards, and support delivery.
• Build reliable batch, streaming, and change-data-capture ingestion from trading, banking, settlement, and liquidity-provider systems.
• Own the lakehouse architecture, including bronze, silver, and gold data layers, modelling standards, ownership, and documentation.
• Manage orchestration, CI/CD, testing, environments, backfills, schema changes, monitoring, incident response, and platform costs.
• Establish data quality, governance, access control, PII masking, catalog and lineage coverage, retention, and residency controls for regulated environments.
• Enable self-service analytics and AI-ready datasets while hiring, mentoring, and developing the data engineering team.

Requirements

• 8+ years of data engineering experience, including 4+ years managing data engineering teams with senior engineers reporting in.
• Experience operating production pipelines and a lakehouse or warehouse at scale in a regulated or audited environment.
• Strong knowledge of batch and streaming ingestion, change data capture, open table formats, layered data modelling, orchestration, data quality, and observability.
• Ability to write SQL and Python, review data models and pipelines, debug failing jobs, and lead major platform decisions through production.
• Demonstrated hiring, performance management, and people development experience.
• Clear written communication for an async-heavy, globally distributed environment, with experience using AI agents or assistants to automate data engineering work.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or exchanges.
• Experience ingesting and normalising money-movement data from external banks and partners.
• Experience with data contracts, data catalogs, data quality programmes, streaming, and change-data-capture pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with GDPR, PCI DSS, DORA, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 audits from the data side.
