TL;DR
Operations Research Engineer Intern (AI): Developing mathematical, simulation, optimization, and machine learning models to solve complex manufacturing and supply chain problems with an accent on production planning, factory performance, and decision algorithms. Focus on validating optimization and simulation models, identifying operational root causes, and applying AI tools to improve production and distribution decisions.
Location: Onsite in Shanghai or Chengdu, China; available to work at least 3 days per week onsite.

What you will do
- Design, develop, validate, and apply mathematical models for manufacturing and supply chain problems.
- Build optimization, simulation, heuristic, decision-science, and machine learning solutions.
- Analyze factory performance, equipment performance, production loading, supply, and distribution networks.
- Work with business units to identify root causes and define strategic and tactical solutions.
- Apply technical training, business knowledge, and judgment to complex operational challenges.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Management Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Focus on deterministic or stochastic optimization modeling and programming.
- Strong operations research knowledge, especially linear programming.
- Programming experience in C# or Python.
- Understanding of supply chain management and optimization, especially production planning.
- Minimum 6-month internship commitment and availability to work at least 3 days per week onsite.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with production scheduling.
- Knowledge of database management systems such as SQL Server.
- Experience with data mining and visualization tools.
