TL;DR
Principal AI Engineer (LLM/RAG): Building and operating production AI application infrastructure across retrieval, permissioning, model gateways, and evaluation with an accent on enterprise-grade reliability and security. Focus on designing permission-aware retrieval, establishing LLM evaluation standards, operating model infrastructure at scale, and mentoring senior engineers.
Location: Vienna, Austria; hybrid work with on-site attendance 2–3 times per week
Minimum annual gross salary: €80,000 for a full-time 35-hour week, with potential adjustments based on position and experience.

What you will do
- Own architectural decisions for AI systems and act as the senior technical voice for the AI team.
- Design and build permission enforcement at retrieval time and partner with Data Engineering on the semantic layer interface.
- Design and operate the model gateway as platform-grade infrastructure.
- Establish evaluation methodology, benchmarks, and release standards for AI applications.
- Mentor senior engineers, lead technical reviews, and contribute to hiring.
- Operate AI components, participate in on-call, and collaborate with Security, Legal, Compliance, and Platform Engineering.
Requirements
- 10+ years of engineering experience and hands-on delivery and operation of production LLM or AI application systems.
- Depth in at least two areas including permission-aware retrieval, LLM evaluation, model infrastructure, agent or workflow infrastructure, and knowledge-graph construction.
- Production RAG experience, including tuning, evaluation, and operation under real load.
- Experience building complex authorization-aware data systems and authoring architectural decisions or equivalent technical documentation.
- Solid production cloud experience; AWS with Bedrock is strongly preferred, with AWS, Snowflake, and dbt used as group standards.
- Fluent written and verbal English, current coding fluency, strong written communication, and production on-call experience.
Nice to have
- Experience as the senior technical counterpart to a Data or Platform team.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Snowflake, dbt, or comparable infrastructure.
- Familiarity with enterprise retrieval products, vector database platforms, and evaluation tooling.
