Chief AI Officer (AI)

Location: Canada, remote

Compensation benchmark: $180,000–$350,000 annually

What you will do

• Develop the organization’s AI strategy, prioritize use cases, and make build-versus-buy recommendations aligned with business objectives.
• Own enterprise AI governance, risk management, compliance, data privacy, model governance, and responsible AI frameworks.
• Build and scale internal AI/ML teams or partner ecosystems, including leadership hiring, talent development, and technical culture.
• Lead collaboration across business, technology, and legal functions to operationalize high-impact AI initiatives.
• Present AI roadmaps, progress, and business impact to boards, C-suite executives, and other stakeholders.
• Define AI investment metrics, track ROI and organizational maturity, and monitor emerging capabilities and market trends.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience leading AI, machine learning, data science, or related technical functions at executive or senior director level.
• Proven success building and scaling technical teams of 20+ people, including hiring, retention, and leadership development.
• Deep fluency in AI/ML fundamentals, current tools and frameworks, and the practical constraints of productionizing AI systems.
• Ability to translate technical depth into business strategy and present effectively to boards and C-level executives.
• Experience navigating organizational change, embedding new capabilities, and driving adoption of emerging technologies.
• Experience with AI governance, responsible AI, data privacy regulation, risk management, or compliance frameworks.
