Senior Software Engineer - Machine Learning (AI)

Location: Hybrid role permanently based in Melbourne or Sydney, Australia

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, evaluate, deploy, and monitor AI/ML products, pipelines, and services.
• Build reliable and scalable ML systems using Python, PyTorch, AWS, Docker, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure as code.
• Develop and maintain real-time and batch data engineering pipelines with Airflow, SQL, BigQuery, and Kafka.
• Implement and optimize ranking, relevance, and retrieval models using embeddings, transformers, and LLMs.
• Establish automated evaluation and monitoring to detect model drift and maintain product quality at scale.
• Contribute to ML platform capabilities and own model versioning, deployment, and lifecycle management.

Requirements

• Commercial production experience in machine learning, ML engineering, MLOps, software engineering, and LLMs.
• Experience with model training, evaluation, inference, and observability using structured and unstructured data, including image and text.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with the ability to create high-quality, maintainable software.
• Ability to select appropriate ML approaches and tools for commercial applications.
• Clear written and verbal communication, collaborative delivery, and the ability to lead feature design and implementation.
• Ability to work from Melbourne or Sydney in a hybrid setup.
