Procurement Operations Business Partner, R&D Operations

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid, with staff expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end purchasing path for research teams and special programs, including purchase requests, work orders, change orders, agreements, and purchase orders.
• Review vendor records, commercial documents, spend categorization, service dates, approvals, and required legal, security, privacy, and risk reviews.
• Structure purchase orders for fixed-fee, milestone, per-unit, and usage-based billing, including GL accounts, cost centers, service periods, renewals, and closures.
• Manage hardware, equipment, and laboratory purchasing, including quotes, lead times, shipping, receiving, and asset handoffs.
• Own open purchase order reconciliation, month-end accrual reviews, invoice holds, PO mismatches, audit support, and commitment schedules.
• Establish procurement processes for new research programs, maintain playbooks and intake guidance, and improve workflows using Claude and AI automation.

Requirements

• Proven experience owning a high-volume purchasing portfolio end to end in a procure-to-pay and intake platform.
• Working knowledge of accrual accounting, accruals and reversals, service periods, cutoffs, prepaid expenses, operating spend, capitalized equipment, GL accounts, and cost centers.
• Experience supporting outsourced or managed-service vendors at scale, with contracts, purchase orders, invoices, changing scopes, and variable monthly volumes.
• Understanding of contract review, security and privacy review, financial controls, and procurement approval requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience.
• Ability to work from one of Anthropic’s US offices under the hybrid policy; visa sponsorship is available, subject to role and candidate eligibility.

Nice to have

• 5–7+ years of procurement operations, purchasing, or vendor operations experience.
• Experience supporting research, engineering, hardware, data operations, ML, RL, laboratory, or outsourced-services organizations.
• Accounting, accounts payable, month-end close, three-way match, open PO reconciliation, or accrual review experience.
• Experience with Zip, Workday Financials, Ironclad, human-data or data-labeling vendors, and tiered intake or approval frameworks.
