Security Engineer Intern (Security & Privacy) - 2027 Summer

Location: Washington, DC; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $31.50 per hour

USDS Joint Venture operates data privacy and cybersecurity programs to protect U.S. user data, applications, algorithms, and the content ecosystem.

What you will do

• Deploy, configure, and monitor security controls across endpoints, networks, and cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute to security development projects, including code review and API testing for LLM integration.
• Conduct security assessments and use penetration testing tools to identify risks.
• Track remediation efforts and help harden enterprise architecture.
• Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to enforce security best practices.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with security engineering activities such as security automation, threat modeling, security mitigation development, or security tooling development.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Ability to state internship availability, including start and end dates, on the resume.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with enterprise security frameworks such as Zero Trust and threat modeling.
• Interest in continuously learning evolving cybersecurity domains.
