Systems Engineer – File Protocols, NAS & Storage with C/C++ Expertise (NAS/Storage): Designing, developing, and supporting NAS file protocols, storage systems, and low-level utilities with an accent on SMB, NFS, filesystem behavior, and C/C++ development. Focus on debugging across operating system, storage, networking, and protocol layers, analyzing logs and packets, and improving performance, reliability, data integrity, scalability, and failover.
Location: Onsite, primarily from an HPE office

What you will do
- Design, develop, and support solutions involving NAS file protocols and storage systems.
- Analyze behavior across file protocol, filesystem, and I/O layers and resolve mounting, sharing, authentication, authorization, caching, failover, and performance issues.
- Debug complex problems across operating system, storage, networking, and protocol layers using logs, packets, traces, and root cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain low-level utilities, diagnostic tools, and components in C and C++, including scripting-based automation.
- Improve the performance and reliability of storage and file services.
- Support validation and testing for data integrity, scalability, resiliency, and failover while collaborating with development, QA, and support teams.
Requirements
- Around 10 years of experience in systems, storage, or protocol engineering.
- Strong expertise in NAS protocols, including SMB and NFS, as well as storage systems and file services.
- Hands-on C and C++ programming experience.
- Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix, system calls, file systems, and process and thread behavior.
- Experience with debugging, root cause analysis, system-level troubleshooting, networking fundamentals, and distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electronics, or a related field.
Nice to have
- Experience with SMB/CIFS and NFSv3/NFSv4 internals, performance tuning, and stress testing.
- Proficiency with Wireshark, tcpdump, strace, gdb, Python, Shell, or Perl.
- Exposure to cloud or hybrid storage environments and cross-functional product engineering teams.
