Head, Spanish Translation Section (AI and Language Technology): Leading the Spanish Translation Section and managing the delivery of translated, revised, edited, and machine-translated texts with an accent on AI adoption, neural machine translation, terminology management, and translation quality. Focus on driving digital transformation, standardizing language technologies, managing staff and resources, and solving complex linguistic and operational challenges in an international organization.
Location: Geneva, Switzerland; onsite duty station

What you will do
- Lead the Spanish Translation Section, set its strategic direction, and manage day-to-day operations and staff.
- Drive the adoption and standardization of AI, neural machine translation, CATT tools, translation management systems, and quality assurance automation.
- Plan and control translation, revision, editing, MTPE, terminology, reference, and word-processing work while allocating resources and monitoring delivery.
- Revise and approve complex texts, translate sensitive materials from English and another official UN language, and make authoritative Spanish-language decisions.
- Manage terminology databases, glossaries, translation memories, knowledge management, staff development, vendors, and public tender processes.
- Collaborate with technology teams and internal and external stakeholders to evaluate, implement, and improve translation tools and workflows.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in modern languages, linguistics, translation, computational linguistics, or a related discipline; a first-level degree may be accepted with additional relevant experience.
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in translation, editing, revision, MTPE, CATT tools, and translation management systems, mainly in international or comparable multilateral organizations.
- Demonstrated experience managing and supervising staff, including performance management, mentoring, and capacity building.
- Proven experience leading technology adoption, implementing new tools and workflows, and managing change in a translation or language-services environment.
- Mother-tongue Spanish and excellent English; good French or another official UN language required.
- Strong leadership, translation-quality, terminology, MTPE, analytics, stakeholder-management, and digital-technology skills.
Nice to have
- Training in technology management, project management, change management, or digital transformation.
- Experience with results-based management, budget management, vendor management, procurement, and professional translation-technology networks.
- Knowledge of subject matter, Agile, Lean, PRINCE2, business intelligence, data analytics, Censhare, or JIRA.
